The Main Production Process of ASME Elliptical Head

Lineation and Blanking (flame cutting)

The elliptical head is lineation according to the unfolding size, and the cutting groove are cut by mechanical processing, plasma cutting or oxyacetylene flame gas cutting. After cutting, the tumor must be cut, splashed, burred and oxide layer, and polished with a grinding wheel to give a metallic luster. There shall be no defects such as cracks, delamination and slag inclusion on the surface of the groove.

Splice

The ellipsoidal heads splice board shall be cleaned of weld bead, welding slag, spatter before forming, elliptical splice weld, and the inner and outer surfaces of the splice weld of the transition part of the conical head shall be ground to the mother before forming. The materials are flush. The surface of the spliced welded joint shall be free of cracks, undercuts, pores, craters and spatters.

Forming

The end of the forming ellipsoidal heads should be trimmed. As a measurement basis for dimensional shape detection, the head is not allowed to be delivered, and the end groove type and size are specified by the technical department in the drawings and technical accessories.

When the machine is added, the card-mounting feet are first spot-welded on the back side. After the processing is completed, the card-mounting feet should be removed, the welding bead and the welding slag splashed, and the grinding of the alloy steel and the stainless steel head should be checked.

Ellipsoidal head (also called elliptical head or elliptical dish end) is usually made with Carbon steel, stainless steel, austenitic and non ferritic metals that can be cold worked. The shape of this ellipsoidal head is more economical, because the height of the head is just a fraction of the diameter. The elliptical dish end radius varies between the major and minor axis usually with the ratio is 2:1. The elliptical tank head is the economical solution for medium pressure tanks due to the reduced metal thickness requirement.
